Douglas was responsible for treaties on Vancouver Island and establishment of reserves on mainland British Columbia. He was much more generous when allotting land than those that followed and reserves were made smaller almost immediately.

Research consisted of survey and semi-structured interviews using open-ended questions with 22 respondents. Study found: limited job opportunityand longevity of employment, inadequate pay scale for hours worked, uequal work expectations, limited opportunities for advancement, inadequate harm prevention, gender or race harassement/discrimination with absence of grievance mechanisms, poor environmental practices, and limited economic benefits to Indigenous people.
