Description
A photograph taken on Poundmaker Reserve September 22, 1947 of William Bleasdell Cameron with Horse Child (Mistatim Awasis in Cree) who was the son of Big Bear. They are looking at a photograph of themselves together in Regina in 1885 during the trial of Big Bear. Cameron had testified in Big Bear's defense. Notes are written on back of the photo.

This photograph is part of a collection of images used by Reg Taylor of the Saskatoon Star Phoenix in an article he wrote which featured William Bleasdell Cameron, a survivor of the so-called Frog Lake Massacre, 2 April 1885.

This file consists of 8 letters from W.B. Cameron to Arthur S. Morton, and one letter from Howard Angus Kennedy to Cameron about his book "The War Trail of Big Bear."

Historical note:

In 1927, the University of Saskatchewan hired William Bleasdell Cameron to gather interesting material dealing with the early days of settlement from the old-timers. Cameron's chief interest, since he was a former servant of the Hudson's Bay Company, was in the Metis and Native people. Much of his information came from other former servants of the Company.

This file contains copies of records from the General Synod Archives, Anglican Church of Canada, pertaining to St. Barnabas' Mission on the Onion Lake Indian Reserve, operated by the Church Missionary Society until l921. Most of the material consists of letters by the missionary to the Society in England and extracts from the missionary's journals, 1876-1895. Also included is a typed chronology of the mission to 1983 and a typed copy of an account of the Frog Lake Massacre told by Mr. J.S. Buller in l969.

A photograph of William Bleasdell Cameron, guide and scout with the Alberta Field Force, with Horse Child, 12 year old son of Big Bear. They were photographed together in Regina in 1885 during the trial of Big Bear. Cameron testified in Big Bear's defense. Cameron wrote a description of the photo on the reverse side which was also scanned for this record.

Image of Humboldt Telegraph Station, likely during the Northwest Resistance. On back of photo: "This photo was taken after Wm. Scott (in charge of the Humboldt Mail Station had finished riding 140 miles to Prince Albert to Humboldt with dispatches. These dispatches were from Colonel Irwin [Irvine] (who was in charge at Prince Albert) to General Middleton. The ride was made in 23 hours on the horse shown in this photo. The horse's name was Lary and was known to have great staying power. Sitting is T. [Thomas] Pike."
