Transcript of a tape recorded interview of Metis North West Mounted Police employee Gabriel Leveille. Leveille worked in the Cypress Hills, Fort Walsh area during the latter half of the nineteenth century. Topics covered in the interview include Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse in Canada, Gabriel Dumont and the 1885 uprising, roping a grizzly bear in the Cypress Hills, Chief Piapot, Ranching, and numerous other topics pertaining to Police and Metis life.

Historical note:

This report, by George T. Orton, Brigade Surgeon, lists the number of injuries, illnesses, deaths and other medical problems associated with battle action from 25 April of the 90th Battalion of Winnipeg Rifles during the Northwest Resistance.

This report provides statistics on battle casualties suffered by the Canadian Militia and North West Field Force during the Northwest Rebellion.

Gerald Willoughby's book describes his arrival from England to Saskatoon in 1883, and he was among Saskatoon's first citizens. His peaceful dealings with Louis Riel and various chiefs are detailed, particularly those with Chief Whitecap. Willoughby offers an assessment of the lives of aboriginals living near Saskatoon and notes numerous similarities between "the Red Men and the White Men."

Riel Resistance Scroll found in Battleford in 1961. Names were intended to be placed on a memorial column in Battleford for soldiers killed in 1885.

Riel Rebellion troops (Canadian militia?) in the Touchwood Hills, east of Humboldt, en route to Long Lake, N.W.T. Man on white horse is General Middleton, according to Aboriginal archivist Wes Fineday. (See RDB). There were several successive HBC fur trade ports in Touchwood Hills. Note telegraph poles.

Pamphlet for the major eastern Canadian Riel conference, held at the University of Guelph, Ontario, 14-16 November 1985. Goals for the conference were to re-evaluate the presence of Louis Riel and other key figures in the Red River and Northwest Resistances, in Canadian cultural expression avenues such as newspapers, school textbooks, novels, poems and plays.

He gives an account of the 1862 Minnesota Massacre and, in its aftermath, the movement of a group of Sioux (Dakota) to Prince Albert, Saskatchewan under the leadership of Tarasota (?). He also gives an account of the 1885 Riel Rebellion and its effect on the Sioux (Dakota) living in the Prince Albert, Saskatchewan district.
