This file contains a portion of a transcript of a sitting of the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples at Regina Friendship Centre, Regina, Saskatchewan. This portion of the Commission includes Youth Circle presentations made by Gary Standing, Ian Nighttraeller, Rick Favel, Margaret Samulson and Lyle Daniels in on the topic of youth involvement in the Aboriginal Community and the education system after which a discussion of the over-all presentations is recorded.

An interview with Rufus Goodstriker, born in 1924 on the Blood Indian Reserve and attended a residential school. He tells of the origins and significance of the transfer of Indian names, especially within his own family. He also talks about Indian medicine and the power of faith; the Indian spiritual way vs. the Western technological way;of herbs, animal spirits, sweat bath in healing etc.

Author recounts her experiences while teaching physical education in a school with a high percentage of Aboriginal students.

Chapter 2 from Revitalizing Indigenous Languages edited by John Reyhner, Gina Cantoni, Robert N. St. Clair, and Evangeline Parsons Yazzie. Comments on the success of a kindergarten class which mastered a vocabulary of 200 words and phrases at the end of 18 weeks.

Evaluation of program targeted at Aboriginal youth from urban schools in Winnipeg's high-poverty areas. Purpose is to provide resources that allow access to traditional teachings, foster connections to ancestry, and establish better relationships.
