Proposes that to meet the challenge of First Nations education, educators must understand historical relationships between First Nations and mainstream educational systems and identify effective strategies for building upon cultural identities.

Looks at research data to help child welfare workers better understand and utilize cultural attachment theory in their decision making with child welfare practices.

Study aims to understand the physical activity (PA) involved in deer hunting, and how that activity can be used to help Aboriginal youth learn physical literacy (PL). Results show that deer hunting can easily surpass the Canadian Physical Activity Guidelines (CPAG) for maintaining health, and that it creates an opportunity for promoting PL to First Nations, Métis, and Inuit youth.

Research stresses the critical need for culturally appropriate care and the need for more research to better implement appropriate policies.

Interviews with 21 youth discovered that maintaining social and cultural connections was crucial to mental wellbeing.

Results indicate that inhalant use trailed only alcohol use among youths surveyed and users were more likely than non-users to have consumed alcohol.

Discusses the activities of the Rocky Mountain Quality Improvement Center (RMQIC) project which was designed to prevent removal and out-of-home placement of children who have become involved with the child welfare system due to parental substance abuse and child neglect.

Based on student interviews, paper reports that success was an individual phenomenon indicated by past experiences and personal ambitions.

Study used a sample of 12 teachers involved with 213 Mohawk children between the ages of 29-60 months who attended the Step by Step Child and Family Center of Kahnawake, Quebec. Goal was to assess the Ages and Stages questionnaire as a culturally appropriate tool to recognize young children at risk for social or emotional difficulties. Article in French.
