Researchers use a decolonizing approach in this study; interviewed 22 people from a First Nations community in Northern Ontario to explore the lived experience and perceptions about developing the disease. Findings indicate a need for culturally appropriate care.
Authors note that Canada’s new Healthy Eating Strategy does not address social determinants of health (childhood environments, gender, Indigenous status, income, education and occupation) as root causes of poor diet quality; they suggest that a reduction of diet inequities will require policy change.

The first report is on the socio-economic conditions that contributed to the spread of tuberculosis, and the economic measures needed to be taken to improve the lives of the Swampy Cree Indians. The second report is an account of the socio-economic conditions of Aboriginal people and recommendations for improving their health status.
