Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples: Presentation by Peter Brook, Executive Director, Prince Albert Tribal Council

File contains a presentation by Peter Brook, Executive Director of the Prince Albert Tribal Council. Brooks asks the Commission if it is prepared to undertake a special investigation into ongoing land claims disputes involving three Dene nations in northern Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories which the Prince Albert Tribal Council represents. Erasmus answers that he looks forward to the upcoming Prince Albert Tribal Council presentation in La Ronge, but that "We don't see ourselves getting involved in issues that are being settled on a day-to-day basis. What we were set up was for long-term solutions on many issues that hopefully will be of some significance to people...I personally am aware of the issue, but acting as co-Chair I will have to see if the Commission as a whole wants to get involved in this particular question." Brook then goes on to make the point that independent institutions are needed to resolve disputes on Treaty issues between First Nations and the Federal government.
