Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples: Presentation by Evelyn Webster, Vice-President, Indigenous Women's Collective

File contains a presentation by Evelyn Webster, Vice-President, Indigenous Women's Collective to the Commission. Webster provides a brief historical overview of her organization, and its mandate to address the social, economic, and political issues confronting Aboriginal women in Manitoba. Webster then goes on to discuss the traditional role of women in Aboriginal societies, and traditional Aboriginal values. Webster asserts that Aboriginal women are the most disadvantaged group in Canadian society, and goes on to discuss problems such as colonization, discrimination, domestic violence, residential schools, and the application of Charter rights to Aboriginal peoples. Webster also discusses the difference between Aboriginal women's views and those of non-Aboriginal feminists, specifically on issues such as domestic abuse and collective rights.
