Historical note:

The Wanuskewin Heritage Park is located northeast of the city of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. It opened in June 1992, after three years of planning for a park that would not only preserve centuries of cultural heritage, but also help build a bridge between First Nations and non-First Nations people of the province. The mission of Wanuskewin is to operate, on a sustainable basis and under the leadership and guidance of First Nations people, a heritage park that contributes to increasing public awareness, understanding and appreciation of the cultural legacy of the northern plains people. Wanuskewin provides linkages between First Nations and non-First nations peoples, business, government, and academic organizations by creating partnerships, developing curricula for educational programming, and providing a First Nations cultural and heritage development model. Wanuskewin has become an important educational resource in Saskatchewan, with an average of 14,000 school children participating in educational programs on a yearly basis.
