Speech given by Diefenbaker at his investiture into the honorary Kainai Chieftanship of the Blood Confederacy, at Waterton Park, June 27, 1960. Diefenbaker speaks of the virtuous and just society of the Indigenous peoples. He promises Chief Shot Both Sides that Canadian Indians can be assured of equality of opportunity. Diefenbaker mentions his appointment of Gladstone to the Senate. As well, Diefenbaker mentions that his government will grant the franchise to First Nations people, while at the same time assuring that their treaty rights will be upheld.
