Historical note:
The Wanuskewin Heritage Park is located northeast of the city of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. It opened in June 1992, after three years of planning for a park that would not only preserve centuries of cultural heritage, but also help build a bridge between First Nations and non-First Nations people of the province.To accompany book about Josephine-ba Mandamim, an Ojibwe Grandmother, and her love for water; she has walked around the Great Lakes to raise awareness of the importance of protecting it for future generations.
Appropriate for use with students aged 6-9 (Grades 1-3). English text with some Ojibwe vocabulary.
Discusses the history of the fur trade in the Northwest Territories and contemporary trapping practices, and gives detailed instructions for making snowshoes, kamiks, spruce canoes, and trap sets and preparing and eating country food.
Focus is on teaching English as a Second Language/Dialect to Aboriginal students.
Discusses social capital as a means to conduct health research that compliments Indigenous communities worldviews.
