Description
Impact of settlements made in 1960-1962 between Manitoba Hydro and Cree bands to compensate for the flooding of Cree lands and the relocation of an entire village. Maintains that, as a result, these bands have changed from self-sufficiency to dependent societies with many social problems.
Briefly explains reasons for the out-migration from Manitoba after the Red River Resistance and the 1885 Resistance, including disappearance of the bison-hunting economy, failure of agriculture, influx of settlers, racism, changes to legislation, and flaws in the Scrip system.
National Aboriginal Circle Against Family Violence(NACAFV)
Description
Project began with visits in the communities of Fisher River First Nation in Koostatak and Mathias Colomb First Nation (Pukatawagan) and later expanded to ten other sites across Canada in a variety of settings (urban, remote, on-reserve, and off-reserve). The study was mainly conducted through interviews with directors, staff and clients of women's shelters.

Purpose of this study is to explore the experiences of five Aboriginal individuals who formerly used solvents and factors related to their transition to non-use.
Evaluated practices of the primary provider of child and family services in Northern Manitoba based on interviews with case workers, caregivers and children, as well as file reviews.
Review found that there is a need for affordable mental health services for children and youth and recommends an increase to prevention funding which specifically targets at risk youth and adolescents.
