First Nations Specific Claims: A Misunderstood and Uncharted Field of Law

Comments on the Indian Claims Commission (ICC) which was created in response to the Oka Crisis and was to make recommendations in two specific areas: "1. To assess the validity of a specific claim that has been rejected by the Minister of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada; and 2. To determine which compensation criteria apply in negotiation of a specific claim settlement, where a claimant First Nation disagrees with the Minister's determination on the applicable criteria."
