Study involved 207 students recruited from two secondary schools located in the Innu communities of Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean and Côte Nord, Quebec.

Looks at Mygunya Aboriginal Corporation established to help Aboriginal women suffering from domestic violence get access to services, travel to women's safe houses, and promotes connections between the woman and her spirit.

Comments on the status of eight strategic directions. Collaborative initiative of the Ontario Federation of Indian Friendship Centres (OFIFC), Ontario Native Women's Association (ONWA), The Independent First Nations (IFN) and the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO)

Conference aim was to examine the several forms of violence against women in all cultural and social contexts.

A survey conducted on a Manitoba reserve led to the development of a treatment program based on community standards.

The file contains the presentation of a discussion paper by Nancy Van Heest. Van Heest discusses family violence and spousal abuse, specifically the approach of her program entitled "Urban Images." Van Heest also addresses some of the systemic causes of the problems her program treats.

File contains a presentation by Carol Croxon. Croxon, who works for the Ojibway Family Resource Centre, Nipissing First Nation, discusses family violence and associated issues. Following the presentation Croxon discusses some of the issues raised with Commissioners Wilson and Sillett.

File includes a presentation by Danielle Descent. Descent discusses health and social services issues (including disease, suicide, addictions, family violence, education, and culturally related matters) in Sept-Iles/Maliotenam. Following her presentation the assembled Commissioners thank her for sharing her views on these issues.

This file contains a presentation by Iris Allen and Margaret Webb focusing on the problems created by the lack of health care services for Inuit people in Labrador. They discuss health problems created by substance abuse, family violence and inadequate housing. The speakers are particularly concerned with the physical and mental health of the youth of Labrador. They call on the Commission to increase financial and professional assistance to Labrador Inuit communities, and to ensure these communities have input in local health care programs.

This file contains a presentation by Rix Rogers relating to his experiences traveling to a number of rural and remote First Nations in Canada and speaking with Aboriginal leaders about child welfare and family violence. People cannot heal themselves when they live in a threatening environment, so creating a new social climate is essential before dealing with patterns of violence. Rogers states that if there is to be a restoration of the full richness of Aboriginal culture, it likely will occur because of the efforts of women.

File contains a presentation by Donna Sears and Bernice Ireland on behalf of the Atenlos Women's Group. Sears discusses the "epidemic" of violence in Aboriginal communities, particularly with regard to family violence.

File contains a presentation regarding Women's Issues by Millie Nelson. Nelson, a member of the Roseau River Women's Group since 1975, discusses child welfare, prostitution, and family violence issues. Following the presentation the assembled Commissioners discuss the issues raised with Nelson.

This file contains a brief recommendation presented by Roda Grey stating that Aboriginal men who engage in domestic violence and destructive behaviour should have help available to them.
