The photographer has written on the back: "The Indian Pony race was a great event at the Cannington Races - a definite sporting event in the western calendar. This photograph shows what is purported to be an Indian pow-wow on Broad Street in Regina taken circa 1885. Some have presumed that this was taken at the time of Louis Riel's trial, although the Archives Board is unable to confirm this. The photo shows a large crowd of non-Aboriginal people watching a pow-wow drum group. Pow-wow dancers are seated nearby. The Mowat Brothers store on Broad Street is in the background.
