Law Enforcement

Draws on historical documents retrieved from Libraries and Archives Canada to reconstruct the narrative of the mass murder that occurred in 1873 near Battle Creek. Challenges the sources which name the date as May 1, asserting that it was June 1 based on trial testimony; examines press coverage following the event. Committee was formed as a result of the report First Nations Representation on Ontario Juries (the Iacobucci Report) which looked at underrepresentation of on-reserve individuals on Ontario's provincial jury rolls as well as systemic issues in the justice system. Details the Committee's final advice, after extensive consultations with communities, with respect to each of the 17 recommendations found in the report.

Document intended to provide police with a "guide to using the problem-oriented policing approach" in communities as a method of establishing cooperative working relationships to identify and address problems.

Discusses the justice system in Elsipogtog, New Brunswick centered around the Healing to Wellness court and its unique features.

Discusses the First Nation Policing Policy (FNPP) since its inception in 1991 and various provincial Aboriginal policing models.

American History Thesis (M.A.)--Emporia State University, 1993.

Analyzes a documentary film Through a Blue Lens produced by the Vancouver Police Department.

Focuses is on reserve policing issues, trends, programs and policies.

Native American Studies Thesis (M.A.)--University of Lethbridge, 2001.

National study of the two dominant explanations for DMC (Disproportionate Minority Contact) among youth, aged 12 to 17, with the police.

Looks at portrayal newspapers put in articles printed in the Calgary Herald, the Montreal Gazette, the Vancouver Province and the Edmonton journal pertaining to the diversion of the Oldman River by a group called the Lone Fighters from the Peigan First Nation.

Examines the character of arrangements and their impact among the signatories through analysis of agreements in three areas: policing, child welfare, and primary/secondary education.

Discusses Sandra J. Schmieder's proposal to allow civil suits against American Indian law enforcement officials who fail to enforce protective orders and argues that Schmieder fails to recognize the juristictional and financial obstacles involved when attempting to protect victims of violence.

Consists of an interview with non-Indian employed at the Gabriel Dumont Institute in Regina. At the time of the interview he was writing a book on the history of the Metis nation.

Conflict Analysis and Management Thesis (M.A.)--Royal Roads University, 2006.

A ledger containing a detailed calendar of outgoing correspondence from the [Duck Lake Agency.] Correspondence subjects include medical and school admissions, building and housing construction, and grocery, stationery and agricultural purchases. This ledger contains information relating to private and legal matters of individuals, therefore only a small sample of pages is available for viewing.

This file contains correspondence and two photographs showing the Duck Lake, Saskatchewan home of Charlie Lovilette, police scout. On backs of photographs: "Duck Lake Sask. / Charlie Lovilettes house / Built in 1891 or 1892 / Police Scout." The letter is from the Glenbow-Alberta Institute returning the photographs to Harold Nelson Woodsworth, who was then stationed in Ottawa.
