Speakers discuss the issue of who and what defines Indigenous identity, settler-state's practice of imposing their definitions, the phenomenon of "playing Indian", and broader social interpretations of court decisions such as Daniels.

Lesson uses interviews with Pat Vegas and Redbone from the documentary Rumble: The Indians That Rocked the World as a jumping-off point to examine the U.S. government's efforts to control Native American culture by way of music.

Research consisted of survey and semi-structured interviews using open-ended questions with 22 respondents. Study found: limited job opportunityand longevity of employment, inadequate pay scale for hours worked, uequal work expectations, limited opportunities for advancement, inadequate harm prevention, gender or race harassement/discrimination with absence of grievance mechanisms, poor environmental practices, and limited economic benefits to Indigenous people.
