Reviews the published information on diabetes mellitus and gestational diabetes among Alaska Natives. The article also summarizes the evidence that shows Alaska Natives have a lower prevalence of diabetes, compared to other Native Americans.
Discusses the natural history of HIV disease, cultural factors, belief systems, traditional healing and prevention education. The self-study includes case studies, study questions and "lessons learned".
Findings show that sexual education is felt to be inadequate and does not cover attitudes, beliefs, values or reproductive health. Concludes with a summary of recommendations that will be used in the development of curriculum planning.
