A Social Work Student's Developing Understanding of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder From Medical and Social Perspectives and Implications for Practice
Socioeconomic Inequalities in Psychological Distress and Suicidal Behaviours among Indigenous Peoples Living Off-reserve in Canada
Study uses data from the 2012 Aboriginal Peoples Survey to measure income-related inequalities in the experience of psychological distress and suicidal behaviors in Aboriginal adults living off-reserve. Findings indicate that higher income and especially food security serve as a protective factor against mental health issues. Recommends policy that attends to these socioeconomic determinants of health.

Study conducted in-depth semi-structured interviews with 25 client and 6 staff participants. Ten themes emerged: culture and identity, traditional health beliefs, family, health messaging from others, healthcare experience, access to quality care, patient engagement, self-care, communication with health care practitioners, personal agency and responsibility, and client management of medications.
