A comprehensive report on the participatory research project funded by the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG, MMIW) facilitated through the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre (DEWC). Project engaged 113 Indigenous and 15 non-Indigenous women drawing on their experience and expertise as survivors of gendered colonial violence.

Description
Uses statistics from the Women’s Computerized Assessment of Substance Abuse (W-CASA) with a sample of 908 federally sentenced women for the period between November 2016 and January 2019.
Data from the Homicide Survey, which collects police-reported data on the characteristics of all murder incidents, victims and accused persons.

Presents evidence gathered from focus groups involving youth, parents, service providers and community leaders, as well as statistical information, program inventory, and social network analysis. Focuses on indicators related to education, employment, health and mental health, and sense of belonging.
A total of 495 survey respondents were Indigenous, representing 39% of the population, and proportion was higher for unsheltered (46%) than sheltered (34%). Snapshot was taken March 13, 2019.
