Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples: Presentation by Linda Vandenburg, Cowichan Band, Wilson Bob, and Closing Remarks

Alternate Title
Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples - Transcriptions of Public Hearings and Round Table Discussions
The file contains brief presentations by Linda Vandenburg, representative, Cowichan Band and Wilson Bob, band member of an affiliate band to the South Island Tribal Council. The file also contains closing remarks by the assembled Commissioners. Vandenburg reiterated statements made by an earlier speaker relating to non-enforcement of the Indian Act regulations pertaining to waste management. Bob is optimistic that this Royal Commission will call for and create changes in the way the Canadian government deals with Aboriginal peoples. Closing remarks: Georges Erasmus, Co-Chairman, thank the speakers for their presentations. Erasmus states that the speakers who shared their stories gave the Commission a "picture that is clear, precise, understandable, supportable and defensible," relating to the Canadian government's need to address Aboriginal issues. Closing remarks by Chiefs Andrew Thomas and David Paul, Co-Commissioners for the Day both thank all presenters for their viewpoints on Aboriginal matters. Paul requests the minutes from the Commission sent to respective tribal councils to be distributed to those people who have participated in the Commission.
