Photograph of the Commissioner of the North West Mounted Police from 1880 to 1886. From the book Loyal till Death: Indians and the North-West Rebellion by Blair Stonechild and Bill Waiser. On the formation of the North-West Mounted Police in May 1875, Acheson Gosford Irvine (1837-1916) was appointed Assistant Commissioner and became Commissioner in November 1880. He was also in command of the police during the Northwest Rebellion of 1885.

Image of E.W. Hubbell, Inspector of Surveyor and veteran of the Northwest Resistance. On back of photo: "Served in Riel Rebellion with Ontario Midland. From childhood I knew him. He lived in Prince Albert and surveyed the area in the 90s. On his mother's side, a Molson from Montreal."

Historical note:

Ernest Wilson Hubbell was born at Brockville, Ontario on 5 November 1862. He died on 19 February 1943 at his home in Ottawa.

During the North-West Rebellion Samuel Benfield Steele (1849-1919) was dispatched with a small force. Missing the Battle of Batoche the Mounties were sent to move against the last rebel force led by Big Bear.

Historical note:

Major General Ivor John Caradoc Herbert, 1st Baron Treowen, CB, CMG, KStJ (b. 15 July 1851 - d. 18 October 1933), was a Liberal British politician and British Army officer in the Grenadier Guards, who served as General Commanding Officer in the Canada Forces from 1890 to 1895. In 1896, he was Colonel in the Grenadier Guards. He was made a baronet in 1907 and raised to a barony in 1917.
