Conflict Analysis Management Thesis (M.A.)--Royal Roads University, 2001. Conflict about the harvesting of the Pine Mushroom (tricholoma magnivelare) in Nisga'a territory.

Discusses appropriate measurement of costs and benefits of resource development, Aboriginal self-determination over economic development, and the potential of revenue sharing to producing viable Aboriginal economies. Looks at four case studies: hydro-electric projects in Northern Manitoba; military use of land in Nunavik; oil and gas development in Alberta; and resource development in Saskatchewan.

Commentary on the issue of natural resource revenue sharing argues that long-term budget plans are needed to accommodate proper allocation of revenues.

A tribal matriarch discusses the turbulent river history, and the impending hydroelectric development, Patuca III.

File contains a presentation by Clarence Apsassin, Blueberry River Reserve. He relates a brief history of Aboriginal people in North America from before 1492 down to the present day. Following this he discusses some of the history of Treaty 8 people, and his own work with various Aboriginal organizations. Apsassin makes a series of recommendations that Aboriginal governments be given more jurisdiction over their own affairs, and control over their own land and resources.

File contains a presentation by Donald D. Cameron focusing on the forestry and mining industry. He urges the Commission to "endorse the concept of multi-use of Canada's natural resources, not just by tourist outfitters, trappers, fishermen and mining and forestry companies, but by Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal." A question-and-answer session with the Commissioners follows the presentation.

File contains a presentation by the Grand Falls Band, Exploits Native Band Council. Rosemary Francis Williams and Board of Directors, Ignatius Paul. Williams delivers the first half of the presentation which covers concerns facing the Band including recognition by the Federal and Provincial governments, justice concerns, financial concerns, self-governance, cultural concerns, and Indian Act concerns. Paul relates a personal story to highlight the treatment his people have received from government and to ask that their Aboriginal rights with regard to economic pursuits be recognized.
