Historical note:

Malcolm Norris (1900-1967) was an influential Canadian Metis leader of the twentieth century, and celebrated Aboriginal activist.

Evaluates the health campaign that focused on at-risk Metis in Manitoba.

Contends that the outlook for the Métis nation is much more positive due to the partnership between university professors and the Métis community.

This 83-year old gentleman talks about work as trapper, farmer, builder, carpenter; a serious accident at High Prairie; work as councillor on the Drift Pile River Reserve and developments on that reserve; and about relinquishing treaty status.

Mr. Paul Gladue, aged 75, describes the area of land covered by a trapper; the traditional lifestyle in northern Alberta; and work in Fort McMurray supplying wood to river steamboats.

Uses Paul's life to illustrate the distinctions in roles within the Red River community as well as differences between Métis inside and outside the community.
