The stories pertain to the Mann family's escape to Fort Pitt, the capture of Thomas Dewan by Stony Indians, the effect of the rebellion on settlers, the escape of two dispatch riders Philip Atkinson of Battleford and William Diehl of Prince Albert, and John Pritchard's rescue of Mrs. Delaney and Mrs. Gowanlock from the Cree.
