Description
Households that fail to meet one or more standards for adequacy, suitability or affordability and whose income is insufficient to afford rental housing that meets standards are considered to be in need.
Revision of 1996 and 2001 core housing estimates.
Follow-up audit assessed progress in responding to 37 recommendations contained in seven reports published from October 2000 to November 2003. Federal agencies evaluated were Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, Canada Mortgage and Housing, Treasury Board Secretariat, and Industry Canada.

Researcher examined data on file with the agency and conducted interviews in order to produce a profile those who use the program. Report forms part of the Bridges and Foundations Project on Urban Aboriginal Housing.
Largely based on Statistics Canada's 2001 Census of Population, and supplemented by information from Labour Force Survey and Manitoba Bureau of Statistics' demographic projections.
Canada's Labour Force Survey in 2005 separated off-reserve data into "Indian," Metis and Inuit, analyses of these data indicated 2.5 times higher rates of employment of non-Aboriginal than of Aboriginal peoples.

Paper based on extensive fieldwork carried out over a 15-month period and interviews with 105 persons in law enforcement, government officials, First Nation political leaders and community activists; includes a historical overview and nine case studies.
Findings of a study undertaken to determine the needs of this sector of the population. Report forms part of the Bridges and Foundations Project on Urban Aboriginal Housing.
Focuses on incidence, severity, causes, and consequences of violence, and resources available both on- and off-reserve. Qualitative data gathered through focus groups of women and key informant interviews with service providers.
Discusses the need to develop a national private sector-Aboriginal partnership strategy to ease the labour shortage and ensure First Nations do not miss out on job opportunities.
