On 2 May 1885 Lieutenant Colonel William Otter was defeated by Poundmaker's war chief Fine-Day at the Battle of Cut Knife near Battleford, SK. Historical note:
Michel Dumais, prominent South Branch Metis. Dumais was one of the delegates sent to retrieve Riel from Montana in 1884 along with Gabriel Dumont and James Isbister.
