Investigates the motivations for, and experiences of raising grandchildren. Questions asked about motivation included experiences with: the child welfare system, residential schools, foster care and adoptive placements; and the impact of the Indian Child Welfare Act on kinship care.
Program is designed to help health care providers become comfortable in treating this group. Aimed at physicians, nurses, dentists, pharmacists, Indigenous healers, etc.
First speaker talks about the Federal government's duty to consult Aboriginals when making decisions that affect them, rights under the Constitution, and Bill C-45. Second discusses how a meaningful dialogue between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Canadians might be established.
