Historical note:
On 2 May 1885 Lieutenant Colonel William Otter was defeated by Poundmaker's war chief Fine-Day at the Battle of Cut Knife near Battleford, SK. A flying column of Canadian militia and army regulars was defeated by Poundmaker despite their use of a Gatling gun.Photograph of a group of participants in the Northwest Resistance, from both sides. 1 file containing: Notes for a speech at the Pion-Era celebration in Saskatoon, SK. Diefenbaker notes his pride that the first day of the festival was devoted to honoring Saskatchewan's Indians. Diefenbaker adds that he was happy that Senator James Gladstone had been here to honor the Indigenous people.
