Historical note:
On 2 May 1885 Lieutenant Colonel William Otter was defeated by Poundmaker's war chief Fine-Day at the Battle of Cut Knife near Battleford, SK. A flying column of Canadian militia and army regulars was defeated by Poundmaker despite their use of a Gatling gun.An edited collection of correspondence published in the Ayrshire Post, and written by William Gibson, a Scottish farmer settled in the Wolseley, SK area. Letters discuss the day-to-day life of farming in the area and describe Gibson’s interactions with the nearby Nêhiyawak (Cree) people. Entire issue on one pdf file, scroll to page 30
