On 2 May 1885 Lieutenant Colonel William Otter was defeated by Poundmaker's war chief Fine-Day at the Battle of Cut Knife near Battleford, SK. A flying column of Canadian militia and army regulars was defeated by Poundmaker despite their use of a Gatling gun.Introduction and two archival items on social and economic conditions of Aboriginal people. The first report is on the socio-economic conditions that contributed to the spread of tuberculosis, and the economic measures needed to be taken to improve the lives of the Swampy Cree Indians. The second report is an account of the socio-economic conditions of Aboriginal people and recommendations for improving their health status.
