Description
Study found that users were more likely to be housing insecure, female, middle-aged, unemployed, Aboriginal and lack a high school education. Compares results with those from a previous study conducted in Iqaliut, Nunavut.
Reports the results of the 2006 Census where 3.8% of the total Canadian population self-identified as Aboriginal, and looks at social issues such as unemployment, housing, and education when comparing aboriginal to non-aboriginal households.
Looks at population, tribal economies, tribal lands, public safety and security, energy on tribal lands, housing and infrastructure, forestry, health disparities, and education.
Argues that current governance practices are responsible for the widening gap between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities, as measured by the Community Well-being Index (CWB). Scores are based on four factors: education, housing, labour force and income.
