Historical note:
On 2 May 1885 Lieutenant Colonel William Otter was defeated by Poundmaker's war chief Fine-Day at the Battle of Cut Knife near Battleford, SK. A flying column of Canadian militia and army regulars was defeated by Poundmaker despite their use of a Gatling gun.Resource uses the painting by Albert Bierstadt to teach close reading skills, allegory and the importance of wildlife conservation. Includes links to interactive puzzle, team-building game, sorting activity, game-based art survey and inquiry study.
Designed as a brief introduction to the issues for educators.
Lesson plan focuses on what cultural appropriation is, how it affects Indigenous peoples and whether it should be regulated by law.
