Historical note:
Joan Beatty was the first Aboriginal woman elected to the Saskatchewan Legislature. Prior to this Beatty had a career in journalism and production, as well as management at SaskTel.Looks at the parallels between two plays in terms of the subject matter and the dramatic techniques used. For example, bingo, is used as a symbol and illustration of women's consumerism and of the spiritual emptiness in their lives.
Discusses a play, The Book of Jessica, that illustrates the struggle women have in understanding what being "a woman" means, including across the barriers of race, culture, privilege and age.
Historical note:
The Rocky Mountain Rangers, under Captain Stewart, and the Moose Mountain Scouts, under Captain White, were also put in commission for service during the 1885 Resistance.
