Historical note:
"In 1911 Edward E. Ayer, a Chicago businessman, presented to The Newberry Library his collection of historical source material relating chiefly to the discovery, exploration and colonization of North America and to the native races of North America, the Hawaiian Islands and the Philippine Islands. It contains at present about 49,000 volumes, bound pamphlets, manuscripts, documents and other accessioned pieces."Authors present two different viewpoints on the Battle. Bryce regards it as a massacre, while Bell adopts a more neutral stance.
