On 2 May 1885 Lieutenant Colonel William Otter was defeated by Poundmaker's war chief Fine-Day at the Battle of Cut Knife near Battleford, SK. A flying column of Canadian militia and army regulars was defeated by Poundmaker despite their use of a Gatling gun.Plain language explanation of legal principles involved in analysis of R. v. Stanley, the case in which Gerald Stanley, a Saskatchewan farmer, was charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of a 22-year-old Cree man, Colton Boushie, and was subsequently acquitted.
