Mihesuah with Denise and Deborah Maloney-Pictou, the daughters of Anna Mae Pictou-Aquash, an American Indian Movement (AIM) activist and a Mi'kmaq-Canadian who was found murdered in 1976 on the Pine Ridge Reservation. The has been much speculation surrounding her death and in relation to the 1972-73 Takeover of Wounded Knee, FBI/AIM involvement, and the imprisonment of Leonard Peltier.
