Historical note:
Charcoal (Si'-okskitsis) was renowned for his strength and cunning as a warrior. He killed his wife's lover, fired at an Indian agent and a NWMP, and later killed a NWMP sergeant and was executed in 1897.An edited collection of correspondence published in the Ayrshire Post, and written by William Gibson, a Scottish farmer settled in the Wolseley, SK area. Letters discuss the day-to-day life of farming in the area and describe Gibson’s interactions with the nearby Nêhiyawak (Cree) people. Entire issue on one pdf file, scroll to page 30
