A video entitled '1993 Gathering of Elders' was recorded in 1993 by Saskatchewan Education, Training and Employment and shows the activities of the gathering. The footage was edited into a finished video in 1994. Camera was by Sam Hardlotte, Glen Markwart and R.J. Morin, narration was by Abel Charles, and post-production was by Sam Hardlotte.Historical note:
The Rocky Mountain Rangers, under Captain Stewart, and the Moose Mountain Scouts, under Captain White, were also put in commission for service during the 1885 Resistance.FILES CAN ONLY BE ACCESSED USING FIREFOX BROWSER. Consists of minutes, transcripts, statements, correspondence/letters, submissions, and reports regarding the historical claim grievances of two First Nations who had 4,500 square miles of land seized to create the weapons range. On 2 May 1885 Lieutenant Colonel William Otter was defeated by Poundmaker's war chief Fine-Day at the Battle of Cut Knife near Battleford, SK. A flying column of Canadian militia and army regulars was defeated by Poundmaker despite their use of a Gatling gun.Memorandum written July 20, 1885 by Hayter Reed, Assistant Indian Commissioner to Indian Commissioner, Edgar Dewdney outlining policies appropriate to the post-rebellion era.
