Description
Folder contains three pages of text and portraits.
Explores direct correlation between the Chiwere Sioux and the Oneota culture.
File contains hand written and typed notes of historian George Shepherd, dated from 1937-1974. The notes include several pages on Aboriginal history in the North-West, that were scanned for this database. This includes a wide variety of material: from copy of a letter written by Louis Riel, to a list of the reserves in Saskatchewan in 1962 and their estimated landbase and populations.
Historical note:
Oral history collection covers the time span from 1861 to 1936; includes typescripts of interviews conducted during the 1930s and consists of about 80,000 entries searchable by personal name, place name, or subject.
Historical note:
The French explorer Jacques Cartier observed in 1535 and 1536 several Iroquoian villages north of Île d'Orléans, including the village of Stadacona on the site of modern-day Quebec City, as well as the village of Hochelaga in the vicinity of modern-day Montreal.
