Description
Council provides advice and recommendations to the Government of Alberta and interested stakeholders on strategies to improve the economic security of First Nations women.
Reports responses of 319 individuals who were asked questions about family life, income nd employment, education, housing and homeless, public accommodation, harassment and violence, police interactions and prisons, health and identity documents.

Sample included 626 women admitted to the Correctional Service of Canada on a new sentence between April 1, 2008 and March 31, 2010. One hundred and twenty-four were of First Nations ancestry and 46 of Métis ancestry. Areas of focus consisted of information collected during intake assessment (demographic, sentence, offence, personal history), institutional adjustment, social support, release-related information, and post-release outcome.
Document discusses issues involved in ethical access to environmental resources, ensuring their sustainability, and women's role in the process. Also reports results of survey of 36 individuals.
Includes discussion of the context of colonization, barriers to justice, needs of survivors, and promising practices and innovative models, as well as a case law review and analysis, and suggestions for moving forward.
Article reports on the findings of three case studies conducted in Australia, Mexico, and New Zealand; shows that health systems in these countries have not addressed barriers to health care arising from multiple factors (or aggravated forms) of discrimination, such as the intersection between disability and indigeneity.
