Historical note:
On 2 May 1885 Lieutenant Colonel William Otter was defeated by Poundmaker's war chief Fine-Day at the Battle of Cut Knife near Battleford, SK. A flying column of Canadian militia and army regulars was defeated by Poundmaker despite their use of a Gatling gun.Edited version of a discussion paper prepared by E. Davie Fulton to assist in the resolution of the Lubicon Lake Band's struggle for tradition lands. The Lubicon Cree were missing from the original signing and negotiations of Treaty 8.
