Authors use several typing methods to describe the genetic characteristics and the carriage dynamics of Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) isolates collected prior to and during the vaccination period of Aboriginal infants from the Northern Territory of Australia. Study found high carriage rates of nonencapsulated H. influenzae (NCHi) with concurrent colonization with Hib being common, while also observing NCHi isolates that were genetically similar to Hib.
