Duncan Campbell Scott (b. 2 August 1862-19 December 1947) was a Canadian poet and prose writer. Charles G.D. Roberts, Bliss Carman, Archibald Lampman and Scott are known as the "Confederation poets". Scott was also deputy superintendent of the Department of Indian Affairs, a position he held from 1913 to 1932.Chronicles the life and works of Horton First Nation Chief Rita Smith.

George Gwynne Mann was born in Darlington, Upper Canada on November 24, 1843. He spent most of his youth and young adult life in Bowmanville, Ontario where he tended his father's farm. In the mid- to late-1860s he was a member of the 45th West Durham Battalion of Infantry and saw action in the Fenian raids.
