On 2 May 1885 Lieutenant Colonel William Otter was defeated by Poundmaker's war chief Fine-Day at the Battle of Cut Knife near Battleford, SK. The town of Fort Qu'Appelle, SK, is located in the Qu'Appelle Valley 70 km NE of Regina between Echo and Mission Lakes. Fort Qu'Appelle was the crossroads of a number of historic trails that traversed the North-West Territories. The Hudson's Bay Company built a post at Fort Qu'Appelle in 1864.
