Study found risk factors to wellness included not being able to participate in traditional activities, over crowding in a household, and high rates of violence.
Commission came about due to numerous allegations of police misconduct towards Indigenous women in Val d'Or, Quebec. Its mandate is to investigate causes of systemic discrimination in the provision of police, correctional, justice, health and social services.
Project involved organizing gathering of families in order to hear their stories and opinions, and interviewing front line workers and police officers working in Nunavik.
