Reviews research on mental health; presents social issues underlying problems and some individual and community responses to these challenges. Argues cultural psychiatry can contribute to rethinking services and heath promotion.
Objectives were to address lack of health information and associated challenges, identify resources needed to take action on issues, and make recommendations on future directions, resources and involvement.
Examines the international legal doctrine of self-determination and its application to the situation of indigenous peoples.
