Article examines the phenomenon in which toxins are concentrated in the fat of mammals and how this especially affects Inuit people because marine mammals make up such a large percentage of their diet.
Interviews community residents about impacts and changes of mining experience: changes to skills and experience; changes to family wages and household economy; new opportunities; employment; alcohol; traditional economy, and infrastructure and services.
Six programs are discussed: Take a Kid Trapping & Harvesting; Kugluktuk High School, School Cooking Club; Harvester Support Program; Project Nunavut and the Country Food Market; Kuujjuaq Greenhouse Project; and Personal Gardening. Includes description, date program began, benefits and challenges for each initiative.
Documentary looks at two Inuit communities on Baffin Island and Northwest Greenland and how they are connected and adapting to social and environmental changes. Includes English sub-titles.
