Ayer, a Chicago businessman, presented to The Newberry Library his collection of historical source material relating chiefly to the discovery, exploration and colonization of North America and to the native races of North America, the Hawaiian Islands and the Philippine Islands. It contains at present about 49,000 volumes, bound pamphlets, manuscripts, documents and other accessioned pieces."Approximately 343 sources, dated from 1762 through 1972, focusing on the St. Regis Reservation in New York, but equally applicable to Mohawks of Akwesasne in Ontario and Quebec. Citations are arranged by subject and subdivided by author.
