Kuujjuaq

Overview of project aimed at Identifying and characterizing the vulnerability and resilience of food systems. Phase two looked at policy linkages and attempted to identify opportunities and priorities for adaptation intervention in high risk populations.

Presents the findings of research conducted in September of 2016 on the changing place of dogs in Kuujjaq, a community where Inuit and non-Inuit live together. Researchers found “that dogs in the community occupy a position that oscillates between appreciation and repulsion—a position shaped by cultural and community contexts.” Text in French.

Authors conducted interviews in the village of Kuujjuaq to gather information about residents' perceptions of ecotourism. They speculate that development in this area may have a unifying effect on Inuit identity.

He speaks about the Elders from his part of Canada and their concerns regarding the education system in its current state and how it could be improved. Epoo also discusses social problems like suicide, chronic welfare, problems with the RCMP, general poverty, and the need to look towards the future rather than dwelling excessively on the past.

Document relies extensively on interviews with workers and professionals in two northern communities, and finds the administration of justice to be cumbersome and inadequate. Recommendations are appropriate systems relative to culture, education and socio-economic reality.
